About The Art of Being Human
We are all shaped by the stories we tell—and the ones we keep hidden.
I am a physician-writer and adventure traveler turned philosopher. For more than five decades, I have moved through the worlds of science, art, psychology, illness, loss, beauty, and resilience. I’ve long been drawn to the kinship between the medical gaze—through which physicians observe and diagnose—and the artistic or creative gaze, which transforms body and spirit into objects of meaning, beauty and introspection.
The Art of Being Human is a home for the writing that grows from that intersection.
Here, I publish essays and reflective pieces that explore what it means to live and to care attentively. These essays move between clinical experience and personal narrative, between art, literature, philosophy, science, and medicine.
I publish on a thoughtful rhythm, allowing my ideas time to mature. Each piece is meant to be read slowly, and to linger, like a seed given time to take root.
If this way of thinking speaks to you, you’re welcome to subscribe and continue the conversation here.
